DANCE CLASS is held on Tuesday mornings. it is taught by Janet Miller, a dance instructor, head teacher of the Moon Bear class, and mom of two former Little Bears. Our dance class consists of movement to music, freeform ballet, and coreographed dance steps. The goals of our dance program are to introduce a variety of movement styles, encourage creativity and musicality, and foster a lifelong love of dance. Leotards and tights or unitards are required. Tutus and ballet slippers are welcome!
MUSIC CLASS is held on Thursdays. The children are divided into small groups for more individual attention. Each class includes songs with movement, a song with instruments that the children play, a listening exercise, and a main son that re-enforces the Little Bear School theme of the month. The emphasis is on building the essential musical skills of rhythm, melody, harmony, and form through joyful play of a variety of musical traditions. Our music class is taught by Kristen Jones, who has ben working in arts education for almost two decades and is mom to current Moon Bear, Walter.
YOGA CLASS is held on Friday Mornings. It is taught by Darya Mead, a writer, producer, blogger, and mom of two former Little Bears. Our yoga classes are a mix of yoga asanas, chanting, and some singing; and Darya often finds creative ways to tie the poses to the seasons and our theme months. The goal of our yoga class is for every yogini and yogi to have fun, build strength, coordination, and flexibility, and learn to understand and enjoy moving their bodies. We do not have at the children change for yoga, so w ask that they come to school in comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement.
